In Little Learners, we took delivery of some ladybird eggs a few weeks ago. The children have since been learning about the life cycle of the ladybird and watching the eggs go through the four stages of egg, larva, pupa and then ladybird. We found some informative videos on the Clevertouch screen for the children to watch and they enjoyed making a variety of ladybird crafts. When the ladybirds first hatch from their pupa they are yellow with soft shells. After a few hours, they turn red and their shells harden and at this stage we could relelase them into our garden. Some of the children were sad to see them go but it was a fascinating and exciting process for the them to be involved in and they thoroughly enjoyed watching the ladybirds grow.
