This week, the children in our Little Learners class have had a fabulous time taking part in our very own Elmwood Preschool Winter Olympics! After hearing some of the children talk about watching events at home, staff built on this interest to create a fun-filled week of themed activities.

The children had the opportunity to “take part” in a variety of winter sports, including figure skating, bobsleigh, snowboarding, and the skeleton, using everyday items as equipment. They thoroughly enjoyed watching clips on the television and then having a go themselves. For the bobsleigh event, the children were given numbers and worked together to jump into their “bobsleigh box” in the correct order—great for developing listening skills and teamwork!

We also watched Matt Weston receive his gold medal for skeleton and listened to the National Anthem. The children then made their own medals and took part in a special ceremony, proudly standing on a podium as they were presented with their awards while the National Anthem played. We also explored our national flag, the Union Jack.

It has been a wonderful week full of fun and new experiences, helping to develop the children’s listening skills, ability to follow instructions, and teamwork.
