* 'Plants' Gallery
Recently, we had 'Plants' as one of our weekly themes in Preschool. As always the staff did an amazing job of providing a wide and appealing range of activities and tuff trays to engage the children, tailoring them to the theme. Here are just a few examples from the week.......
A sensory herb tuff tray encouraged the children to use their senses of touch and smell. Others were designed to develop fine motor skills such as a perfume making tray, where the children had to put petals into containers with tweezers before adding water and mixing. Our flower construction set also helped to develop the muscles in those little fingers. The children also practiced their cutting skills on a variety of vegetation.
We talked to the children about what plants and crops needs to grow and the children regularly get involved in watering whatever we have in the garden, in this example, some lovely tulips. The children were very lucky to be able to plant some seeds using seed pens very kindly donated by one of our parents.
The week also involved lots of crafts including a couple of group pieces - a cactus made with sponge printing and a flower painting made with printing using the bottom of a bottle. Arts and crafts build on a variety of skills including listening, creativity, and hand-eye co-ordination.
The fairy garden tuff tray represented 'small world play' and encouraged the children to engage in role play both individually and with their friends.
